SPECIAL REPORT: THE INSIDE STORY OF CAMPAIGN 2008

The fight between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama turned into a grinding stasis that played out until the very last primary day.

Nov. 19, 1985
President Ronald Reagan and Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev meet for the first time, at a superpower summit in Geneva. The meeting did not lead to any major breakthroughs in the country's relations, but the two leaders hit it off personally and agreed to meet again in the future. They did so the following October, in Reykjavik, Iceland, and got along so well that they quickly agreed in principle to remove intermediate-range nuclear missiles from Europe-and to eliminate their entire nuclear arsenals over the next decade. Sadly, the more ambitious goal never became a reality, although the two countries did sign the INF Treaty in 1987.
