President Bush isn’t the only American whose popularity has taken a beating overseas. Paris Hilton was in a convenience store in Stockholm when she was accosted by a shopper there, who called her a “whore” and started screaming that he hated Americans.

“Paris and her boyfriend, Nick Carter, had bought five DVD films and went to 7-Eleven to buy some sandwiches,” says our source in Sweden. “They were there around midnight. This guy came up to them, called Paris a whore and said he didn’t like Americans. She screamed ‘Shut up!’ at the guy but he was being really nasty.  Then he started waving his arms and being very threatening.  Paris threw down everything she had in her hands and ran out to the black Mercedes that was waiting outside for them.  Nick and the guy were yelling at each other and a bodyguard went between them and grabbed Nick and led him outside to the car.”

Paris Hilton later dismissed the incident, saying that the attacker was merely “disgusting” and that she and Carter are “in love” with Stockholm and thinking of buying an apartment in the city. Hilton also caused buzz by getting a three-hour haircut at the top hairdresser in town, smoking a waterpipe at the Buddah bar, and checking into a hotel that’s not a Hilton.

“Why are you staying at the Hotel Rival — and not at your father’s Hilton hotel that’s located right around the corner?” the newspaper Aftonbladet asked. Replied Paris, “We like the Hotel Rival better.”

Do you take this Tiger?
Speaking of Sweden, it looks like Tiger Woods is firming up his plans to marry his Swedish fiancée, and the buzz is that it will happen in her homeland.

Woods’ mother, along with the mother of Elin Nordegren, have been spotted scouting out sites around Stockholm, particularly the Grand Hotel. “The word is that it will happen here and it will happen soon,” says our source.

Mariah Carey is the biggest diva who ever visited MTV, according to Tim Kash, a host at the music network, who told the Sunday Mirror of London that the singer once visited MTV and demanded that everyone in the building gather around and clap as she entered.   . . .Lenny Kravitz is also no slouch in the diva department. The rocker appeared at a recent concert with an entourage of 56 and a long list of demands.  . . . A London tabloid claims to have an exclusive interview with Jason Alexander, Britney Spears’ hubby of 55 hours, in which Alexander gives a very sordid, detailed account of the short-lived marriage, including how their love-making was so frantic that the couple fell off the bed. But The Scoop’s fave detail is when Britney’s family found out about the marriage. Her mother supposedly went into a rage and, according to Alexander, “Her brother rang and I spoke to him. He talked about annulment. I didn’t know what the word meant so I didn’t say anything.”
