LINCOLN, Neb. - Joe Dailey became the first Nebraska quarterback to throw for more than 300 yards and tied a school record with five touchdown passes, and the Cornhuskers bounced back from the worst loss in their history to beat Baylor 59-27 Saturday.

Dailey was 13-for-20 for 342 yards, breaking the previous record of 297 yards set by Dave Humm against Wisconsin in 1973.

Dailey threw touchdowns of 27 and 45 yards to Isaiah Fluellen in the last 1:21 of the first half to give the Huskers a 31-3 lead.

Nebraska (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) desperately needed a win after getting embarrassed in a 70-10 loss to Texas Tech last week.

After Baylor (2-4, 0-3) took an early 3-0 lead, Dailey threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Steve Kriewald and a 74-yarder to Cory Ross to give the Huskers the lead for good.

Dailey’s fifth TD pass, a 31-yarder to Grant Mulkey early in the fourth quarter, sealed the win after the Bears had pulled within two touchdowns.

Brandon Jackson led Nebraska rushers with a career-high 89 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries.

Baylor’s Dane King threw for a career-high 281 yards on 23-of-38 passing, with one interception and two touchdowns. Marques Roberts caught seven balls for 99 yards and Marcus Venus six for 53 yards.

Nebraska had no turnovers after committing seven against Texas Tech and a total of 23 in its first five games.

Huskers coach Bill Callahan was conservative with his West Coast offense early in the game. The Huskers kept the ball on the ground on 20 of their first 24 plays from scrimmage.

Dailey’s first two touchdown passes were on short flips to running backs coming out of the backfield.

Dailey started looking downfield in the middle of the second quarter. He hit Fluellen in stride at the goal line on their first touchdown connection. Then, after Fluellen put five yards between himself and the nearest Baylor defender, Dailey lofted a perfect ball for a touchdown with 5 seconds left in the half.

The Bears scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to cut Nebraska’s lead to 38-24. Paul Mosley, who led Baylor with 56 yards on 15 carries, ran in from a yard out and King threw touchdown passes of 8 yards to Dominique Zeigler and 1 yard to Roberts.

Jackson scored on a 1-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter to restore Nebraska’s three-touchdown lead.

Baylor is 0-34 all-time in Big 12 road games.
